Boost for e-mobility: SMATRICS EnBW brings large covered charging parks, short charging times and price transparency in 2025

A total of around 400 high-power charging points will be available in the SMATRICS EnBW charging network in Austria by the end of the year. The expansion of the charging infrastructure has made the most progress in Lower and Upper Austria. Following the record expansion in 2024, the company is planning at least 200 more charging points in 2025 and is focusing on transparent and dynamic pricing for charging parks.

By 2024, Austria's largest nationwide fast charging network will have grown by around 250 ultra-fast charging points. By the end of 2025, a total of at least 200 additional high-power charging points will be available in the SMATRICS EnBW charging network, exceeding the 600 mark. Thomas Landsbek, CEO of SMATRICS EnBW, knows that the demand for public charging options is unbroken: “We will need every plug we can get. Especially in larger cities or for frequent drivers, there is no alternative to a quick charging stop in between.”

The federal states of Lower Austria and Upper Austria are in first and second place when it comes to expanding the charging infrastructure. The HPC charging points in Lower Austria have been expanded from 52 to 94 and in Upper Austria from 28 to 68. This means that around 40 percent of the SMATRICS EnBW fast charging infrastructure is located in these two federal states.

Speed and price transparency in demand for e-charging
SMATRICS EnBW is further expanding its fast-charging network with high-performance HPC charging points with up to 400 kW of power. These ultra-fast chargers can charge electricity for up to 400 kilometers of driving in 15 minutes. While at least four charging points were previously installed at each location, the trend since 2024 has been towards charging parks with at least twelve charging points. Last year, SMATRICS EnBW already put several of these parks into operation, for example in St. Veit and Poggersdorf (Carinthia), St. Pölten (Lower Austria) and Vorchdorf (Upper Austria). This year, further charging parks will be added in Regau and Suben (Upper Austria), Spielberg (Styria) and Altlengbach (Lower Austria). In addition to the state-of-the-art charging infrastructure, the parks are equipped with canopies and, in some cases, solar panels.

From 2025, SMATRICS EnBW will also be using transparent price labeling at its charging parks. This is comparable to the signage at conventional filling stations and displays the ad hoc price per kilowatt hour on a daily basis. This provides e-mobilists with clear and comprehensible price information even before charging - as is currently the case via the app. “The pricing enables even inexperienced e-mobilists to get a quick overview and reduces uncertainty,” says Hauke Hinrichs, COO of SMATRICS EnBW.

Perfectly integrated into everyday life - retail remains an important partner
Landsbek explains the importance of retailers for e-mobility as follows: “For retailers, the addition of e-charging infrastructure to their own services is an important step in positioning themselves for the future. That's why we are further expanding our cooperation. Customers can now conveniently and reliably combine charging and shopping.” SMATRICS EnBW currently has around 250 charging points available at retail partners. By the end of 2025, 34 locations will be added. The electricity for operating the charging points comes 100% from renewable energy from VERBUND.
