Largest public SMATRICS EnBW high-speed charging park opens in Vienna
Together with its retail partner ZGONC, SMATRICS EnBW is setting a milestone for everyday e-mobility in the city.
Right in the heart of the city, directly at the ZGONC location on Hadikgasse in Vienna's 14th district, the largest public high-speed charging park in the federal capital was opened. The project was realized by Austria's largest fast-charging infrastructure operator SMATRICS EnBW as part of a location partnership with the Austrian retail company ZGONC.
The new charging park currently offers twelve ultra-fast charging points with a charging capacity of up to 400 kW – allowing up to 400 kilometers of range to be charged in just 15 minutes. Open around the clock, with transparent and daily updated displays of the ad hoc price per kilowatt hour, it is a prime example of modern, customer-oriented charging infrastructure.
The site can also be expanded to a total of 16 charging points. “We always plan our charging parks with foresight,” explains Thomas Landsbek, CEO of SMATRICS EnBW. “With the option of adding further charging points, we can expand existing facilities quickly and cost-effectively as demand increases.”
Predictable, scalable, future-proof
Already 75% of all journeys in Vienna are made in an environmentally friendly way – on foot, by bike or by public transport. The aim is to make the remaining 25%, which statistically are made by car, as climate-friendly as possible. In a densely built-up city like Vienna, the use of existing space for a well-developed fast-charging infrastructure is therefore of central importance.
"We want to enable mobility where life takes place – right in front of our stores. The new charging park is another important step for us in our charging infrastructure expansion program. Over the next two years, we plan to work with SMATRICS EnBW to expand around 130 charging points at ZGONC locations throughout Austria,“ explains ZGONC Managing Director Michael Dockal. ”In this way, we are not only creating a service for our customers, but also making an active contribution to the energy transition."
Although Vienna is very well positioned in the normal charging sector with more than 2,800 charging points, charging times of up to five hours are often impractical in everyday urban life. In addition, there are fewer home charging options available in large cities. Fast and ultra-fast charging points are therefore key to making electric mobility suitable for everyday use.
“With over 30 ultra-fast charging points in Vienna by 2026, we are not only creating an attractive offering for ZGONC customers in the fast-charging sector, but also making an important contribution to promoting electric mobility,” said Hauke Hinrichs, COO of SMATRICS EnBW. All SMATRICS EnBW charging points are powered by 100 percent green electricity.
